In 1984 a group of local citizens and business people came together to form Crime Stoppers of Ouachita in Northeast Louisiana. We are a non-profit, volunteer organization. Over the years Crime Stoppers has been credited with providing information that has aided police in solving thousands of local crimes and recovering over $3,000,000 in stolen property. By financially rewarding tipsters and by providing three 24-hour, easily accessible ways for people to anonymously inform the police, Crime Stoppers removes the two main reasons individuals don’t report information about a crime: fear of retaliation and an unwillingness to get involved.
A Message From Det. Craig Honeycutt
Ouachita Parish Crime Stoppers Coordinator
I am from West Monroe, a graduate of West Monroe High School and ULM. I have been employed with the Monroe Police Department since January 1996. I began my career by answering calls for service and addressing crime for six years while working nights on patrol. I then served eight years on the Monroe Police Department's street crimes unit known as SNAP (Specialized Neighborhood Action Program). In December of 2009, I became the coordinator for Crime Stoppers of Ouachita Parish replacing Detective Jeff Gilbert. The contacts made and experience I gained over the past several years has given me the knowledge, insight and understanding how crime affects citizens and businesses. Crime Stoppers continues to serve as an important tool citizens can use to report, prevent and solve crimes in their community while receiving cash rewards without fear of retaliation.
